US Iran war news LIVE: Iran’s jailed Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has been rushed from prison to a hospital in northwestern Iran after a “catastrophic deterioration” in her health, her foundation said on Friday.

The Narges Mohammadi Foundation said the Nobel Prize winner suffered two incidents of complete unconsciousness and a serious heart-related crisis.

Earlier on Friday, Mohammadi reportedly fainted twice inside the prison in Zanjan in northwestern Iran, the foundation said. Her lawyers, who met her a few days later, said she was believed to have suffered a heart attack in late March. At that time, she looked pale, had lost weight and needed a nurse’s support to walk.

The move to the hospital came “after 140 days of systematic medical neglect,” following her arrest on Dec. 12, the foundation said.

US Iran war news LIVE: On Saturday, Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior member of the Iranian military’s central command, said “a renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely.”

“Evidence has shown that the United States is not committed to any promises or agreements,” he said, according to Fars news agency.

Iran also said on Saturday that Washington must decide whether it wants diplomacy or a return to open conflict, adding that Tehran is prepared for both options.

“Now the ball is in the United States’ court to choose the path of diplomacy or the continuation of a confrontational approach,” deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi told diplomats in Tehran, according to state broadcaster IRIB.

Iran’s mission to the UN pointed to the massive US nuclear arsenal, accusing Washington on Saturday of “hypocritical behaviour” towards Iran’s own atomic ambitions.

There was no legal “restriction on the level of uranium enrichment, so long as it is conducted under the IAEA’s supervision, as was the case with Iran,” it said, using the abbreviation for the UN nuclear watchdog.

US Iran war news LIVE: A Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) belonging to Iran’s National Iranian Tanker Company has reportedly slipped past the United States Navy and reached the Asia Pacific, carrying more than 1.9 million barrels of crude oil worth nearly $220 million, according to TankerTrackers.com.

In a post on X, the monitoring firm named the vessel as “HUGE” and said it was last seen off Sri Lanka more than a week ago. The tanker is now moving through Indonesia’s Lombok Strait towards the Riau Archipelago.

TankerTrackers.com said HUGE was in Iranian waters on April 13, when the US navy announced its blockade on Iranian ports.

The report came after Iranian state media said on April 29 that at least 52 Iranian ships had broken through the US blockade. The US military, meanwhile, said it had forced around 41 Iran-linked vessels to turn back since the blockade began.

He questioned why countries affected by the war and suffering from the energy crisis are not pressuring the US and Israel to stop the aggression.

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, Tajani noted that both parties examined the “ongoing conflict in Iran and the situation in the Middle East,” while pointing out the critical necessity of averting a broader escalation.

“I clearly confirmed that for Italy, the development of an Iranian nuclear program for military purposes represents a red line, with the concrete risk of triggering a dangerous nuclear arms race in the region,” Tajani stated.

US Iran war news LIVE: China will not comply with US sanctions against five firms targeted for purchasing Iranian oil, Beijing’s commerce ministry said on Saturday.

China is a key customer for Iranian oil, mainly through independent “teapot” refineries that rely on discounted crude from the Islamic republic.

The United States, seeking to choke off revenue to Tehran, has ramped up sanctions on such refineries.

The commerce ministry’s injunction, relating to sanctions announced separately since last year, states that the US measures “shall not be recognised, implemented, or complied with”.
